1997 was a big year for us. We have seen the second annual Summer in Scotland party. Several parties put on by Clannies around the state, including the hughly successful "Birthday in September" party. We also staged the massive Clan invasion of Starquest '97. And, on that same weekend, a major Clan expedition to Burning Man. October saw the first MacDude Manor Halloween party, which was also a great success. So, let's sum up the year's activities so far... We started the year with Summer in Scotland 3. Once again, Bonny Doon took everything we could throw at it. While it was not as wonderfully gorgeous as last year's assault, the weather was pretty damn good. We even learned about what happens when you fling a can of fizzbeer over your visual horizon. Incidently, the shot in question was well over 200 Meters from a short barreled pneumatic. There were a number of killer parties put on by Clannies during the summer months, though we missed out on having a Camp MacDude II during the summer. Not sure if it's still possible, but there is always hope for a winter ski trip some time during the Winter '97/'98 season. Labor Day weekend was a major event for the Clan. We invaded StarQuest '97 in /who -herea big way. A large fraction of the senior staff - including The Patriarch - were Clannies. The Clan presented the Bonny Knees contest poolside the first night, with a panel the next day. The last full day of the Con saw the wedding of our dear Cat and Pewter MacDude. Way to go, guys. Also, as the post con reports flowed in, the Clan wedding was one of the best attended and most enjoyable events of the convention. Pictures will eventually migrate to the Gallery page to replace the pix from the first Summer in Scotland party. Labor day also saw a large MacDude contingent at Burning Man - complete with Mr Foo's 15' tall mushroom. Unfortunately, we don't have a full report of the happenings at Burning Man here at MacDude Central so we're going to have to wait - probably for a long time - to get the scoop. We're also lacking information on the Clan's invasion of the Highland Games that happened that weekend. So, as you can see, we were an active group over labor day! We're not really sure if the "Birthday in September" party was an official Clan event, but it was well attended by Clannies and friends alike. We had another Bonny Knees contest - under a different set of rules, and the crowd was much enthoused. What's next? Well, the Clan MacDude Manor Halloween Party will have happened by the time you read this, and we may even have a report coming. Other then that, there will be a Siege Engine competition, possibly as early as next Spring. With any luck, there will be a second beach party this year, and maybe a ski trip too. Stay tuned, Clannies. You never know what's coming next! |
